Call for Applications – MOTHRA: Artist-Parent Project, Fall 2022 Residency

MOTHRA: Artist-Parent Project

Announcing a few spots left for our next artist-parent, child inclusive, residency at Artscape Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island.

November 14 – 21, 2022
Application Deadline: Open until filled

Since 2018 MOTHRA has been organizing residencies for artists who are parents or carers of children. Artists attend the residencies with their child(ren) on idyllic Toronto Island. Accommodation and studio are provided at a subsidized rate.

MOTHRA is part of a world-wide network of artist parents who are making an art world that is child inclusive. We embrace parenthood/motherhood to explore how art is transformed when we acknowledge and value these relationships. Children are a valued and integral part of the project. Whether you are an artist parent who works like this or not this is an opportunity for you to think and work through these things with us.

Apply now for our upcoming November residency!

Please email with your expression of interest. We’d love to know about your practice, who might come with you, and where you are based/traveling from.

Expect more news and dates for the 2023 residencies to be announced in December/January.

Thanks to the Ontario Arts Council for their support.

If you want to know more about us, we are featured in the recently released book “How Not to Exclude Artist Mothers (and other parents)” by acclaimed art writer, Hettie Judah, published by Lund Humphries. Ask for it at your local book store!
