Initiated in 2014, the Winnipeg-based Mujer Artista – a multi-year art project – emerged from the idea that community-based processes could have a transformative effect on art practice, especially for demographics that have historically excluded from access to institutional development systems. Eight years later, Fast Forward and Rewind: Conversations on Place and Space in Art, will reflect on the impact of Mujer Artista and the environment from which it emerged and that surrounds it.

San Francisco-based artist Praba Pilar in performance

Friday, June 24 – 7 PM
Praba Pilar Artist Talk: The Parallel Worlds of Queercornu(c/t)opia
Praba Pilar will share Queercornu(c/t)opia, a new series of performances, digital works, and social practice works sited in California, Mexico, and Peru and presented all over Abya Yala (the Americas). These interrelated works embrace temporary states of utopia and wonder; of dystopias and alienation; of refusals, emergences, and possibilities. Based on collective generosity and conviviality, the work is an invitation to radically reconfigure how technologies are developed and used, whether emerging, ubiquitous, ancestral, futuristic, and/or planetary.
