Call for Applications: Craft & Design Artist-in-Residence Program
Are you an emerging craft artist or designer? Are you a recent graduate or a current student in a material and design program?
Craft & Design at Harbourfront Centre is a unique Canadian institution that assists recent graduates to establish professional careers. The Craft & Design Studio is the only post-graduate national training facility for craftspeople, recognized by Canadian Heritage.
Craft & Design offers residencies in five disciplines:
- Ceramics
- Design
- Glass
- Metal/Jewellery
- Textiles
Term of Residency:
- Annual – One year contract for recent graduates, renewable up to three years.
- Summer – Three month scholarship contract for full-time, returning students.
What does it mean to be an Artist-in-Residence in the Craft & Design Studio at Harbourfront Centre?
The main goal of the Craft & Design Artist-in-Residence program is to assist emerging designers and makers to establish professional careers.
Full-time Artists-in-Residence have 24-hour access to Harbourfront Centre Craft & Design Studio and equipment to design and make functional and/or non-functional work.
Each discipline has two volunteer, professional Artistic Advisers to give advice, offer critiques and suggestions about career direction and work development.
Craft & Design organizes events with national and international artists and professionals — lectures, workshops, seminars, conferences, and exhibitions.
Artists-in-Residence have the opportunity to exhibit their work in one of the many on-site venues and sell their work in the on-site shop.
Artists-in-Residence also have the opportunity to teach classes to the public.
