Open Call: CHEP Artist Roster for Murals, Glass + Wall Art at BC Children’s Hospital centre for health complexity

Submission Deadline: August 26, 2026, at 2:00pm PT

BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, working with Aartplace Art Consulting & Curation and HOST Consulting, is pleased to invite artists and artist teams from British Columbia and the Yukon to apply for the CHEP Murals, Glass and Wall Art Roster at the BC Children’s Hospital centre for health complexity, located in what is known colonially as Vancouver, on the traditional, unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. To learn more about the centre for health complexity, please visit the BC Children’s Hospital website.

A selection panel will identify a curated roster of artists for 11 integrated art opportunities, representing up to 50 potential commissions. These may include painted or digitally produced murals, glass and window applications, participatory or community-based works, and framed or wall-based artworks. Artists working across a range of media are encouraged to apply.

Artists selected for the roster will be prequalified for future consideration and may be invited to one or more opportunities based on the alignment of their practice, experience, and interests with the project’s needs. Inclusion in the roster does not guarantee a commission. Selected artists will be supported by the art consultant throughout the commissioning process.

For complete details, please read the full Call for Artists.

Eligibility

To be eligible for these art opportunities, artists must live and/or work in British Columbia or the Yukon (Canada).

Artists working in any media and at various stages of their careers are welcome to apply. Artists with disabilities or who live with chronic illness, artists from local First Nations, urban Indigenous artists, and artists who self-identify as a member of an equity-denied and/or under-represented community are encouraged to apply.

Artists should be open to collaboration and working alongside other artists and project partners to ensure curatorial consistency and architectural integration.

Compensation

Opportunity budgets range from a maximum of $4,000 CAD to a maximum of $63,000 CAD, excluding taxes.

Selection Process

The Artist Roster will be selected by a panel comprised of artists, arts professionals, community members, Indigenous representatives, members of the CHEP project team, as well as patient, family and clinical representatives.

The panel will review the artists’ submissions and select a number of prequalified artists to form the Artist Roster.

The panel will consider past work, artistic vision, alignment with the project (place, people, experience), and the curatorial vision for the art program. The panel will be facilitated by Aartplace, who will coordinate the selection process as a non-voting body. The successful artists will be notified after the roster selection process has been completed. Artists in the roster will then be considered across the 11 art opportunities, and may be invited to one or more commissioning opportunities.
