RiverBrink Art Museum is excited to announce that On the ’Brink is returning for its 3rd year! At our outdoor exhibition of installation art, visitors will explore the lush grounds of the Museum and discover unique art installations focused around this year’s theme, “Myth.” The festival is an opportunity to experience installation art at the brink of the beautiful Niagara River, explore the Museum’s current exhibitions, and meet the artists. Families can participate in our child-friendly art activity and create their own mythical creature. Black Bear Bakery will be on-site selling delicious baked goods, sweet treats, and beverages. Admission is free to the public and donations are welcome. On the ’Brink is generously supported by the Partnership Investment Program from Tourism NOTL.
This year’s theme is “Myth.” An important foundation of traditional folklore and sustained in contemporary culture, myth is often deployed to explain events and world views. It may be invented or imagined, provide a rationale for experience, and be used to proscribe behaviour. Myth may be dismissed or challenged as a story that is false and misleading, a fantasy beyond rational thought. Myth can also be a source of creativity and inspiration, for artists and storytellers and for anyone attempting to make sense of the world. In the end, myth is a cultural expression shaped by our own life experience. The way we view our culture in relations to others informs how we distinguish untruth from truth, the fanciful from reality, and non-fiction from fiction.
