Print London invites London and area artists to submit entries for a curated printmaking exhibition to be held at Satellite Project Space. Esteemed London artist, Ron Benner, has been invited to be the Guest Curator and will select works to be exhibited from entries submitted based on a unique theme that he has developed.
About the Exhibition:
The title for this exhibition is excerpted from a statement by Mike Flannigan, a professor of wildland fire, University of Alberta: “On average, we’re going to see fire. A lot more fire”. Flannigan was interviewed by Claire Theobald for an article in the Toronto Star, “Wildfires rage while politicians bluster”, Sunday, May 26, 2019. The article covers some of the stories and views on climate change and the 5000 residents who have been forced to evacuate as the Chuckegg Creek wildfire in Northern Alberta continues to burn and spread. Flannigan stresses that, “wildfires are becoming the norm in Alberta because of climate change altering weather patterns.” The article also quotes Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, “Promises made, promises kept”, as he introduces legislation to kill Alberta’s carbon tax.
The artist has always had a voice in confronting major issues. Climate change is the foremost issue facing us today. I am interested in works that deal with the effects of climate change on the Canadian landscape. Works submitted could include representations of fire, smoke, floods, drought, wind, tornadoes, hurricanes, bluster, and solutions.

Based in his hometown of London, Ontario, Ron Benner is a visual artist, curator, activist, gardener and adjunct professor in Visual Arts at Western University. He studied agricultural engineering for one year at the University of Guelph (1969-70) and began to work as an artist in London in 1970. Benner was the first artist manager of the Forest City Gallery (1980-81) and co-founder of the Embassy Cultural House (1983-1990). He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. His works are in numerous public collections including: the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the McIntosh Gallery, Western University, Museum London, and the Casa de Las Americas (Havana, Cuba). He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Chalmers Art Fellowship (2004), and the Canada Council for the Arts international residency program, La Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, France (2000-01). In 2017 Benner completed a permanent photographic/garden installation Trans/mission: Native to the Americas in front of Laurier University Library in Waterloo. He continues to maintain his photographic/ water garden installation As The Crow Flies at Museum London. In January 2019 he completed a site-specific installation Trans/mission: Barley-Corn-Maize at the Clarington Visual Arts Centre, which is located in a former barley mill in Bowmanville.
Artists must submit by email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the following:
- Name, address, email, phone number
- Numbered list of submitted works including: title, medium, date, dimensions (in inches)
- Indicate if pieces are for sale with the selling price or NFS if not for sale
- Please note that Satellite Project Space collects a 30% commission on all sales
- Attach an Artist Statement and 1-page CV in PDF format
- Attach up to four (4) images meeting these criteria:
- Files must be in BASELINE standard JPEG format
- Files must be named in the following format: 01initialsyeartitlemedium.jpg (image number, applicant’s initials, year of the work, title of the work, medium)
- Images should be sized to a maximum of 2100 pixels on the longest edge, with a print resolution of 300 dpi/ppi
- File size for each image must not exceed 2 MB

Entrants agree to allow Print London to use their submission material, without compensation, in any print or online promotional materials for this exhibition.
Satellite Project Space will collect a 30% commission on all sales.
All entries must be original hand pulled prints (relief, intaglio, lithography, monotype, and screen prints), digital prints, 3 D prints, or variations of these. Photographs and machine produced reproductions will not be accepted.
Works can be framed or unframed and can be in any dimensions.
Entry fees are non-refundable.
Artists who are selected will be contacted by email on August 4. Delivery instructions will be given at that time.
Submission deadline: Sunday July 21 @ 11:59pm
Artwork drop-off: Monday August 19, 9:00am – 12:00pm or 5:00pm – 7:00pm
Opening reception: Saturday, August 24 @ 4:00pm
Artwork pick-up: Saturday, August 31, 12:00pm – 2:00pm
