Featuring outstanding Canadian & US artists presenting summer art courses for 2024 at Sunbury Shores, including:

Jay Isaac: The Abstracted Landscape | July 9 – 12, 2024
Participants will learn about the work of contemporary and modern artists to illustrate the use of landscape and its components as starting points for abstraction. Short field trips will guide participants to observe the landscape, make preliminary sketches in situ, and develop paintings in acrylic in the studio. The artist will demonstrate how an observed landscape can be abstracted through colour and form. Isaac was educated at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Vancouver BC, and the Cardiff School of Art and Design, Cardiff, Wales. His work is in private and public collections including the Royal Bank of Canada and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.

Maggie Rose: Colour, Colour, Colour | July 22 – 26, 2024
Painting with Maggie Rose | July 29 – August 2, 2024
Both courses highlight the artist’s focus in painting as “primarily figurative with an emphasis on the exploration of the poetic nature of colour, and on the use of colour as a sculptural tool in painting.” Recognized as a gifted and generous teacher, Maggie delivers courses that are loaded with information, direction, and personal attention. She has an MFA from The New York Academy of Art, graduating cum laude, and was the recipient of the Forbes Foundation Travel Grant for excellence in painting. She taught at the New York Academy for over 20 years while maintaining her own studio practice.

Geordie Millar: Drawing from Life with Geordie Millar | August 12 – 16, 2024
Participants of all levels who wish to further their skills will learn about concepts of anatomy and technique while working from life with a model. A dynamic and enthusiastic art teacher, Millar studied drawing, painting and anatomy at the National Academy of Art and the Art Students League of New York. Currently teaching drawing at Sheridan College in Oakville, ON, the artist’s work with film director Guillermo del Toro can be viewed onscreen in the features The Shape of Water and Nightmare Alley, and the Netflix series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.

Mary Kircher: Journaling with Mary Kircher | July 19 – 21, 2024
Mary Kircher will guide participants to create their own unique accordion-style journal, incorporating collage, tapestry, stitching, and writing, resulting in creative displays for fibre artists, book lovers, creators, and makers. A fiber artist and textile designer specializing in hand weaving and custom dye techniques, Mary has a Master’s degree from North Carolina State University Her woven works and commissions are in numerous private and public collections.
