Intro to Entrepreneurship for Artists and Designers: Turning Your Idea into a Viable Business
In this course, students will explore the business potential of their own creative ideas. Students are introduced to research tools and fundamental business planning principals. Topics include business models, business strategy case studies, developing markets, budgeting, decision making, business trends, risk analysis, operating systems, finance, and legal issues. Starts online, April 16.

Game Design Studio 1: Intro to Unity
In this course students are introduced to the art of game design and development using the popular game engine, Unity. Topics include working in 2D and 3D environments, using game objects both sourced externally, and custom made, environmental design with lighting and materials, physics systems, working with and spatializing sound, and setting up cameras and character controllers. Demonstrations, presentations, discussions, and critical play exercises about the fundamentals of the game experience such as rules, play, and culture, support the design process. Sustainable Sewing: Mending Workshop
This one-day studio workshop explores the fundamental skills in textile repair and repurposing. Discussions will be held on the broader context of sustainability in clothing and other textiles from the perspectives of creators and consumers. Students are introduced to contemporary and historical textile repair techniques, including machine and hand-darning, needle felting, patching, and Sachiko. An emphasis is placed on visible mending techniques and developing a personal aesthetic. One-day, in-person, May 24.

Intro to Design Thinking
This course introduces students to design thinking as a problem-solving process that focuses on empathy, listening, collaboration, observation, critical analysis, and experimentation to drive innovation. Design thinking can be applied to a wide range of fields from product design to urban planning. Students will work collaboratively to explore real world problems through stages of the design process such as inspiration, ideation, and implementation. Starts online, June 2.
