Request for Qualifications: Valley Line West – Gerry Wright OMF Building Public Art Project, Edmonton

Call to Artists: Valley Line West – Gerry Wright Operations and Maintenance Facility Building Public Art Project – RFQ

The Gerry Wright Operations and Maintenance Facility Building public art competition, open to local and national professional artists and artist teams/collectives who reside in Canada, is held in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy “Public Art to Enhance Edmonton’s Public Realm” (C548D). Artists with a connection to this area of Edmonton are encouraged to apply. Based upon a portfolio review and interview, the successful artist(s) will be commissioned to create an artwork.

The Edmonton Arts Council Public Art Program on behalf of the City of Edmonton is seeking an artist or artist team to integrate site-specific public art at the new Gerry Wright OMF Building. The selected artist(s) will create an original artwork that will be installed on the highly visible southeast side of the building. The artwork can span two walls. The artwork on each wall is limited to 50m long and 4m high and shall not weigh more than 75 kg per square metre. The artwork will be seen by motorists from the Whitemud Drive and the LRT as it crosses over Whitemud Drive along 75 Street.

The artwork will be attached onto the exterior wall of the building. Mediums could include, but are not limited to, large scale murals, light based work, or low relief sculpture. No vinyl or UV degradable materials will be accepted. Artists should consider the speed at which any artwork in this location will be viewed.

The selected artist(s) will consult with the project team to identify the final artwork location.

Budget: $300,000 CAD (maximum, all inclusive)

Submission deadline: Friday, June 17, 2022
Interviews: Late June or early July, 2022
