Anticipated Start Date: This position will start full-time in September 2022 with a flexible paid orientation period in Spring/Summer 2022.

Work Location: Full-time home base presence The Ground Floor (132 Fort York Blvd.), with occasional other work sites relevant to Jumblies projects and activities.
Hours of Work: Average 35 hours per week, with flexibility of scheduling. Some evening and occasional weekend availability required.

Jumblies is a Toronto-based arts organization working locally and across Ontario and Canada on projects bringing together diverse professional artists and community members to make art with, for and about people, places, and urgent and compelling themes and stories.

We are seeking someone with combined artistic, managerial and administrative experience, flair, inclination and aptitude, to step into a fulsome mid-career position with our company. The ideal candidate would thrive in a work environment that combines flexibility, structure, self-direction and collaboration.


The Programming Director will work closely with Jumblies Artistic Director, General Manager and other relevant staff members and lead artists, in the following areas:

Manage and lead artistic programming at The Ground Floor including:

  • already-established/planned programming: Jumblies Artist Residencies (JAR), Exhibitions, Gather Round Singers (community choir), Artfare workshops (professional development), Art-making drop-ins, special events,
  • programming and activities, emerging from Jumblies multi-year projects and collaborations with partners and guest artists,
  • community-engaged arts projects and initiatives proposed and developed by the Programming Director themselves.


  • Conduct/supervise outreach to diverse community participants, locally and city-wide, with a special focus on Toronto Community Housing tenants;
  • Cultivate and maintain cross-sector partnerships related to The Ground Floor programs and activities;
  • Manage outreach and publicity via websites, social media, print and other modes.


  • Manage and supervise regular and contracted staff, artists, apprentices/interns working at or in relation to activities at The Ground Floor;
  • Provide mentorship and support for staff/artists in work-learn positions;
  • Uphold and promote the vision, mandate, values, policies and practices of Jumblies and participate in the overall life of our company.


  • Support collection of attendance and statistical data from The Ground Floor and other relevant activities, and integration with Jumblies tracking, reporting and evaluation systems;
  • Manage budgets and finances related to The Ground Floor and other designated programs;
  • Contribute to/take initiative in grant proposals and other fundraising initiatives;
  • Ensure management and upkeep of The Ground Floor facilities, supplies and equipment;
  • Conduct other administrative and programming tasks as relevant and designated;
  • Contribute to overall company schedules, meetings and short and long-term planning processes.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working in roles of responsibility and leadership in community-engaged arts or a related field, including substantial experience in creative, managerial and administrative areas:
    ◦  Understanding of and commitment to inclusive community-engaged arts,
    ◦  Background and interest in interdisciplinary, visual arts and/or curatorial practices,
    ◦  Success in writing arts grants and knowledge of community arts funding scene,
    ◦  Forming and engaging in cross-sector and inter-cultural partnerships,
    ◦  Engaging members of the public of diverse backgrounds, ages and abilities.
  • Substantial experience managing staff, artists, learners, volunteers:
    ◦  Experience with equity, diversity and anti-oppression practices and policies,
    ◦  Experience providing mentorship and guidance to emerging artists,
    ◦  Formal or informal experience or education in Human Resources (managing people).
  • History and evidence of a compelling artistic and/or curatorial practice;
  • Substantial education or learning background in a relevant field;
  • Strong written and verbal skills in English, with other languages an asset;
  • Strong computer skills: proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms, and proficiency with/high aptitude to learn other programs and applications (e.g. databases, graphics, web utilities);
  • Ability to assume leadership and take initiative, as well as collaborate and support others.
