The City of Swift Current is accepting applications for the position of Preparator-Carpenter at the Art Gallery of Swift Current (AGSC) in the Community Services Division. This is a permanent full time in scope position, reporting to the Art Gallery Director.

This position is responsible for the installation and dismantling of exhibitions, safe handling of artworks, design, construction, and maintenance of gallery materials and equipment as well as supporting Gallery programming, education, and outreach activities. This position plays a vital role in exhibition design as well as in the preservation of AGSC’s permanent collection, helping to ensure artists are supported in achieving their artistic goals. This position is also responsible for the coordination and lead installation of event tent setup and take down for various special events in the community.

Basic Requirements:

  • Successful completion of grade 12;
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License;
  • Minimum three years of art handling and installation experience, and knowledge of museum standard practices and methods of display;
  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques in the preparation and exhibition of art;
  • Previous construction/building experience; familiarity with various installation techniques and technologies, as well as lighting standards and techniques;
  • Knowledge of and experience with audio visual and other technical equipment and/or experience with installation and presentation of media work (audio, video, performance, etc);
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication skills;
  • Strength and mobility to perform the required physical duties;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with established procedures and policies and operations requirements;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and accomplish projects with little supervision; and
  • Willingness to become Youth Certified;

Desirable Requirements:

  • Completion of a museum studies program or equivalent technical program of study; and
  • Experience with driving and maneuvering large vehicles and trailers is an asset.

The salary range for this position is $2,014.23 to $2,449.78 bi-weekly in accordance with the City of Swift Current – CUPE Local 183 Collective Agreement.
