Art Centre Operations Director

Klondike Institute of Art & Culture (KIAC) is seeking an Operations Director based in Dawson City, Yukon to join our team.

The Klondike Institute of Art & Culture is seeking an Operations Director to be part of our co-leadership team, helping guide the multi-disciplinary arts centre into its next chapter. The Operations Director role is focused on ensuring organizational stability through diligent management of financial systems and assets, the development of robust human resource infrastructure, administering comprehensive policies and procedures, overseeing core grants and fund development, management of capital assets and long-term facility needs, and fostering good governance in collaboration with the Board of Directors. This role is ideal for someone who would like to support a vibrant arts community in Dawson City, Yukon.

The co-leadership team consists of the Operations Director and the Programs Director. The intent is to hire the Program Director within 6 months of hiring for the Operations Director position.

Start Date: April 1, 2026 (or at the successful candidate’s earliest availability)
Duration: 2 year term contract with possibility to extend
Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week for a 6-month period, transitioning to a 30 hour work week
Location: Dawson City, Yukon
Salary: The hourly pay for this position is $38.46-$41.04, to be determined based on experience.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience*

  • Minimum of three years experience* in nonprofit operations, senior administration, or operations management, including staff supervision and balancing day-to-day execution with strategic priorities.
  • Demonstrated capability in financial management: budgeting, cash flow monitoring, internal controls, board reporting, forecasting, and audit/review engagement readiness, including oversight of bookkeeping.
  • Demonstrated experience managing public funding/grants end-to-end: applications, budgets, compliance, reporting, and renewals.
  • Commitment to a generative relationship with co-leadership and understanding of wise practices for co-leadership roles.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and supervising a team, including the ability to foster an environment that supports and empowers employees, contractors, and volunteers.
  • Experience providing leadership to others, such as staff, volunteers, or community members, with a demonstrated ability to provide guidance and support.
  • Progressive leadership skills and a grounding in wise practices for nonprofit management.
  • Currently reside or be willing to relocate to Dawson City, Yukon.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience*

  • Experience working closely with a Board of Directors and supporting governance processes: preparing board materials, reporting against plans/budgets, and implementing board-approved policies.
  • Working knowledge of risk management, including insurance, contracts, liability awareness, and mitigation planning.
  • Proven ability to lead or coordinate HR operations (recruitment processes, onboarding, performance systems, workplace policies, compliance basics)
  • Experience with facilities management in a public-facing building (rentals, access, safety procedures, emergency planning, contractor oversight).
  • Proven strength in systems building: operations manuals, workflow design, records management/privacy practices, and improving admin processes.
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural, inclusive, and anti-oppressive environment.
  • Proficiency with common administrative tools, including Google Workspace, Square, Mailchimp, WordPress, and registration/payment platforms.
  • Knowledge of the Dawson City, Yukon community including an understanding of local resources and Tr’ondek Hwech’in culture, is an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of DCAS vision and KIAC aims and objectives.

*Experience is considered to be built through:

  • engagement in formal and/or informal education and/or training;
  • paid and/or volunteer work experience;
  • community organizing and/or activism;
  • domestic labour.
