Maximum Exposure 29: Beyond the Surface

April 26 – May 5, 2024 | Free and open to the public, 12pm to 4pm
Opening Night: April 26, 6pm to 10pm
Image Arts at The Creative School, Toronto

Maximum Exposure 29: Beyond the Surface, a student-run exhibition at Toronto Metropolitan University, is excited to welcome the public to its Opening Night event on Friday, April 26. Curated by a team of graduating photography students, MaxEx showcases photographic, film and mixed-media work by some of The Creative School’s best emerging artists.

Not only is the Image Arts building filled with general student work, but it also includes an entire thesis exhibit by Photography and Integrated Digital students. Visitors also don’t want to miss the Function Magazine 25: Transcendence launch party and the Third Year Show: Flux.

This is a night to celebrate students’ creativity and hard work. Taking place at The School of Image Arts located at 122 Bond Street in downtown Toronto, this complimentary event will run from 6pm to 10pm, with an award ceremony taking place at 7:30pm. Additionally, MaxEx will remain open to the public until May 5. Visitors can continue to experience this free exhibition from Tuesday to Sunday, 12pm to 4pm.

Each year, the MaxEx team has the pleasure of selecting the theme for the exhibition based on the amazing work being presented. This year, the curatorial team has selected Beyond the Surface. This provides a space into the state of authentically seeing, allowing a deeper understanding of the subjects at hand while breaking through surface-level societal standards and celebrating the visions of upcoming image-makers.

The MaxEx team would like to extend a big thank you to their sponsors – The Image Centre, Pikto, Toronto Image Works, Stephen Bulger Gallery, Edward Burtynsky, Downtown Camera, Adina Photo and Framing, Gallery 44 and Akau Framing. These sponsors greatly contribute to the success of our event, providing awards, donations and framing services for students.

MaxEx would also like to thank the faculty and staff at The School of Image Arts. None of this would be possible without their substantial help and support throughout the whole process of this event.
