Katie Green: Translations in Vision
April 19 – June 29, 2025
Molson Community Gallery
Translations in Vision features recent works by Barrie-based multidisciplinary artist Katie Green, who explores ideas of transformation, process, and perception. Green reimagines her recent textiles through the unpredictable language of Risograph printing, where patterned fabrics and stitched borders become halftone dots and textured ink. Recurring symbols suggest movement and transformation, and the inherent imperfections of the Riso process—unexpected colours, subtle misalignments, shifts in opacity—reflect the evolving nature of vision, which changes with age, experience, distance, and light.
Barrie artist Katie Green’s interdisciplinary practice infuses humor with advocacy, and is guided by the idea that art can positively impact our everyday lives. Building community, sharing experiences, and supporting new generations of artists keeper her inspired. In 2019, she co-founded Spare Room, a local creative hub on Barrie’s Lakeshore Mews where artists can work and connect. Green is the recipient of the 2022 John Hartman Award, made possible with the generous support of MacLaren patron and artist John Hartman.

PIE Education Centre
Presented in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month and Children’s Mental Health Week (May 5 – 11), CommUNITY is a collaborative exhibition developed by the MacLaren Art Centre in partnership with New Path Youth and Family Services. This project invited regional youth, families, and educators to take part in free art workshops that explored how creativity can support connection, growth, and emotional well-being. The resulting exhibition showcases a vibrant and varied collection of works that reflect personal stories, shared experiences, and the strength found in community.
New Path offers free, accessible mental health supports for children and youth, available in person, by phone, and online. Formed in 2000 through the amalgamation of four agencies in Simcoe County, New Path remains guided by its original vision: to build healthy, connected communities that support personal growth and well-being through inclusive, integrated care.
The MacLaren and New Path extend grateful thanks to all participants, and to the City of Barrie’s Bright Futures Grant for supporting this meaningful initiative.

About the MacLaren Art Centre
The MacLaren Art Centre is the major public art gallery in Central Ontario serving the residents of Barrie, the County of Simcoe, and surrounding area. The Gallery has a significant permanent collection of contemporary Canadian art and presents a year-round programme of exhibitions, education activities, and special events.
The MacLaren is located on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabek, which include the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Pottawatomi Nations, collectively known as the Three Fires Confederacy. The local bands consist of the Chippewa Tri-Council, who are made up of Beausoleil First Nation, Georgina Island First Nation, and Rama First Nation. We would also like to acknowledge the Wendat Nation (Huron) who occupied these lands prior to the middle of the 17th century.
As a registered charity, the MacLaren relies on public and private support for its operations and programs. The MacLaren gratefully acknowledges the ongoing support of its Members, Patrons, Donors, Sponsors, Partners, the City of Barrie, the Ontario Arts Council, the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Canada Council for the Arts, and Canadian Heritage.
