John Ferri | Crossed, Immersed & Stratified
Solo Exhibition of New Works
On view until November 14, 2026
Akasha Art Projects, Toronto
Akasha Art Projects along with guest curator James Turner, is pleased to present an exciting and vibrant exhibition of three new series of works by photo-based artist John Ferri. Though distinct in their imagery and conceptualization, each series is unmistakenly the work of Ferri. In two, Stratification and Immersed, Ferri descends from his traditional aerial vantage point and returns to earth—eye level—to pay further witness to the human experience surrounding, and shared by, all of us.
His art combines elements of photography, digital collage and graphic design to create a unique visual perspective that balances precision, whimsy and a fascination with human movement.

John Ferri, Permission to Feel, photography and digital collage, 20″h x 20″w
John Ferri’s Crosswalkers series are warm, bold and saturated works showing individuals executing the most basic of human functions—walking. Although seemingly secure in their own personal spheres, closer inspection reveals their interconnectivity.
The Stratification series explores speed and motorized transport. Of course, the true subject is not the mechanics of the travel but the travellers themselves. Whimsy that disappears in the blink of an eye. Humans here, then gone.

John’s Immersed series is a study in shared joy. Almost a return to the street photography that defined his earliest work, in this case Ferri does not construct the space—it simply, mysteriously, exists. Individuals and groups pass through the space, experience a joyful moment, and then, contentedly, fade away.
“My art explores how people move through built environments. Through geometric shapes, bold layers of color, and repeating patterns, I examine how we navigate the physical and social structures of the everyday. The figures within these compositions are simultaneously isolated and connected. By blending street photography with imagined spaces, I capture this contradiction—freezing fractions of a second while holding multiple moments at once. Though drawn from three distinct series, this collection is united by a shared focus on the rhythm, pace, and boundaries of our lives. Throughout it all, the human figure remains the sole constant, giving dimension to our surroundings rather than being defined by them.”
