Instructor (Tenure Track) – Technical Theatre and Stage Management

The Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Technical Theatre and Stage Management at the rank of Instructor to commence on January 1, 2024.

Applicants must demonstrate experience in stage management, production management/technical direction, devised theatre, and have a dynamic and engaged record of theatre/performance creation. Candidates should possess an MFA or the equivalent in professional skills and/or training. Preference will be given to those with a record of successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

The University of Regina is located in the heart of a vibrant, and increasingly diverse, mid-sized city in the centre of the beautiful Canadian prairies on Treaty 4 Territory with a presence in Treaty 6, the territories of the Nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda peoples, and the traditional homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation.

The Theatre Department in the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance is situated in the southern Saskatchewan Prairies, where an exciting artistic renewal is taking place in several of our leading cultural organizations. Here there is big sky, offering space for the right candidate to create, both in the landscape and in our beautifully equipped state-of-the-art facilities. These include the 439-seat University Theatre and the adjacent, versatile Shumiatcher Open Stage, also known as the Shu-Box Theatre. The Theatre Department is an engaged member of our community. We take pride in our ongoing relationships with the Globe Theatre and in past collaborations, such as the Making Treaty 4 project, and with local independent companies Listen to Dis’, Curtain Razors, and the Saskatchewan Association of Theatre Professionals. We are currently working in partnership with Regina’s On Cue Performance Hub in creating space for new, alternative theatre-makers in our city to produce new works, and was a senior partner in presenting the first RISER REGINA project in the spring of 2023 in partnership with On Cue.

With a faculty complement of 35 full-time professors, including some of the most celebrated contemporary artists in the country, the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance enjoys a long-standing reputation as one of Western Canada’s foremost environments for artistic research at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Emphasizing the importance of studio production and theory, we offer BA, BFA, BMus, MMus, MA, MFA, and an Interdisciplinary Studies PhD in Media and Artistic Practices.

MAP has numerous international partnership universities, with many innovative mobility initiatives for both faculty and students in Mexico City and the UK, among other locations.
