Budding Water

Presented by Cesar Forero
Art Space Connect Gallery
September 10 to 25, 2022
Artist Talk on Sunday, September 25 at 1 pm – 2:30 pm

The journey of the artist Cesar Forero in a constant search is inspired by the concept of the Carnivalesque. Poetry, dance, figure skating, painting, and sculpture comes together in a single architectonic installation with performance.

Cesar’s ongoing practice increasingly focuses on the creation of multimedia installations incorporating two and three-dimensional elements, plus dance and music performance, into the context of haptic experience.

The intent is to create a liminal space in which the viewer stands inside the environment as participant, and is transported from everyday reality in a symbolic experience.

John Notten, Tug

Tug

Presented by John Notten
Art Space Connect Gallery
October 18 to November 6, 2022
Reception on Sunday, October 23, 2022, 1:30 pm – 4 pm

In this kinetic sculpture installation, an absurd scene plays out as four boats desperately attempt to row outward in opposite directions. Oars endlessly rise and fall as each pulls earnestly on a tree which is at the centre of this tug of war. These vessels, despite their best attempts, get nowhere.

A study in frustration, Tug presents an exploration on the ways in which the landscape continues to be commodified, sapped of its physical properties through a historical legacy of excessive extraction as much as its ideological ones.
