Curatorial Coordinator, Indigenous Initiatives & Public Art

The City of Peterborough is seeking a Curatorial Coordinator, Indigenous Initiatives & Public Art to support the delivery of exhibitions, public art projects, and community-based cultural programming across galleries, museums, and public spaces.
This role requires lived Indigenous experience and a strong understanding of Indigenous cultural protocols, ethical curatorial practices, and community engagement. The position supports relationship-building with Indigenous artists, Elders, and communities, and contributes to the development of contemporary, community-based work grounded in Indigenous perspectives.
Working within the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Services Division, the Curatorial Coordinator contributes to curatorial projects through research, coordination, and hands-on implementation, supporting culturally informed, inclusive, and accessible programming.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate exhibitions, public art projects, and cultural programming from concept through implementation
- Support installation and deinstallation, artwork handling, and loan coordination
- Assist with research, interpretive content, and exhibition materials
- Liaise with artists, Indigenous communities, and cultural partners
- Support community engagement activities, workshops, and public programs
- Maintain documentation related to collections, exhibitions, and projects

Skills and Experience:
- Post-secondary degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, Cultural Studies, or related field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in galleries, museums, or cultural environments
- Lived Indigenous experience (required)
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultural protocols and ethical curatorial practices
- Experience working with artists, Elders, and community partners
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
- Valid Class G Driver’s License
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Compensation:
$73,109.40 – $76,749.40 annually
