New courses coming this fall:
Contemporary Furniture Design Seminar | October 30 – December 4
This seminar course introduces students to the history, form, and function of furniture design from the past 100 years. The course covers the development of styles and their sources, as well as the evolution and organization of furniture manufacturing, from machine technologies to the re-emergence of craft within the studio furniture movement.
Game Design Studio 1: Intro to Unity | November 9 – December 14
This course introduces students to the art of game design and production using the popular game engine, Unity. Topics include importing and working with 2D and 3D models, setting up game objects, using basic scripts, applying materials, lighting, and sound.
Interior Design 2: Materials and Finishes | October 30 – December 4
In this intermediate course, students will learn about materials and finishes used in interior design. Topics include regulations and standards, millwork, textiles, and how finishes are applied to treatments for floors, walls, and ceiling surfaces.
UpCycle Fashion Studio | October 19 – November 23
This studio course explores creative ways to restyle, reuse, and upcycle used clothing. Students explore additive and subtractive techniques to transform preowned garments into textured, layered, and sophisticated fashion. Topics include fabric sewing, surface embellishment, and textile redesign.

Indigenous Art & Design Studio Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition
OCAD University recognizes the significance of Indigenous knowledge in an art and design studio practice. Students who have received training in Indigenous art or design skills may apply for prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR) for those skills to be considered as one qualifying course towards any Continuing Studies Certificate. Travel Study: Florence Studio
Open Residency in Florence, Italy | December 2019 & January 2020
The Creator in Residence Open Residency supports the participation of artists, designers, writers and any creative practitioners that can benefit from the time and space to develop their practice in a studio environment. Participants receive access to studio space in a quiet shared palazzo in Florence’s San Marco neighbourhood. The residency includes an introductory Italian lesson, group community events, studio visits with local practitioners and a facilitated weekly group critique session.
