The District of Saanich invites applications from experienced artists or arts professionals to serve on a Public Art Project Jury to select artwork for the major redevelopment of Fire Station #2. This new landmark public safety in the Royal Oak neighbourhood showcases landscape and architectural features and enhance the community. A key part of the project is the commission and integration of site-specific public art through Saanich’s civic public art program.

Following an orientation to the project and the public art process, the jury will provide input into the Project Brief and Call to Artists, contribute to the shortlisting and evaluation of proposals through a two-stage process, and make recommendations on the selection of artwork. The project jury is comprised of:

  • three artists or arts professionals
  • one community member representing the local community association
  • one departmental staff representative
  • the project architect
  • the Public Art Coordinator (non-voting)

Eligibility and Requirements

Applicants must reside in Saanich or the Capital Regional District and be at least 19+ years of age. The selection process is expected to take place over three meetings in 2024 (Summer and Fall). Jury members must be able to participate in all meetings and undertake some preliminary review prior to meetings.

Compensation

Artists and arts professionals serving as project jury members will be offered an honorarium of $750 at the completion of the process, in appreciation of their time commitment and expertise.

Complete a brief application form and provide a one-page Statement of Interest and Experience and a supporting C.V./resume or background summary.
