Calling all artists, designers, research groups, educators and makers! Toronto Kids Digital Festival 2020 (TKDF) is looking for the exciting projects you are making to engage kids of all ages!

Are you working on developing new fun digital interactions? Are you focused on STEAM/STEM projects and education? Have you made an art or design project that is both wondrous to look at, speaks to children, and is a fun experience? Are interested in examining how digital art and design are molding future generations? Are you a kid who has made something amazing you’d want to share with the world?

TKDF is an emerging festival with the goal to celebrate technology and showcase experimental, educational, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineer, Art and mathematics)–based and interactive digital projects that engage children. Through digital explorations this festival encourages unique learning opportunities and experiences for kids of all ages.

Happening March 16-21, 2020 in Toronto, Ontario, TKDF will not only strive to improve visitors Digital/Media literacy, we also aim to empower young minds with technological tools, critical thinking experiences and introduce them to tech-based design practices. TKDF will provide kids and parents alike the opportunity to learn from leading artists, designers, educators, and researchers who are currently building new digital worlds to expand and empower imaginations.

TKDF is seeking digital projects which utilize technology for the purpose of creating new and positive experiences to support the development of young, creative minds. With a variety of options, the festival is seeking projects that could come in the form of interactive art, experiential design, innovative research, workshops, prototypes, and more!

Possible project could include:

  • STEAM Oriented Projects
  • Games/ Video Games
  • Projection mapping
  • Augmented Reality
  • Virtual Reality
  • Mixed Reality
  • Videos/ Animation
  • Code based projects
  • Robotics
  • Wearables
  • Immersive Digital Environments
  • Performances- for Kids!
  • Research Projects
  • Speculative design Projects
  • Interactive Storytelling

Workshops:
We’re also looking to run workshops that could come in two forms:

  • 0.5-1 hour workshops where kids can leave with something they made
  • Week long workshops (like mini camps!) for kids to attend daily during the festival
    *Workshops can be STEAM related

Eligibility:
Accepting all professional individual or group projects that engage children aged 4 -14. TKDF is looking for projects that are concerned with accessible and child-centric user experiences. Projects must be ready to show (not prototypes), safe, and child friendly.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION:

  • Visual examples of the project: JPEG, PNG, video, website or external online links
  • Project description (150 words max)
  • How does this project engage with the imagination of children through digital technology? (150 words max)
  • Technical requirements
  • Spatial requirements
  • CV
  • Submissions can contain up to 3 projects for consideration

TKDF will provide:

  • Installation assistance
  • On-site facilitation of your project during the festival
  • Social media and marketing
  • Opportunities to meet and collaborate with like-minded makers
  • Artist Fee or funds to help with your projects

Notification of Acceptance: Artists will be notified by email by January 3rd, 2020, if their work has been selected to be in the festival. Accepted artists will receive exhibition details including delivery of artwork, insurance, and opening reception.
