2025 marks 50 years of the Grimsby Public Art Gallery. When the gallery opened in 1975, director William Poole created an annual tradition of hosting an end-of-term exhibition and sale for his printmaking students at O.C.A.D. The Gallery 9 and Gallery 19 shows saw hundreds of emerging print artists and spurred the creation of our Teaching Collection by accepting one print of each edition into our permanent collection. This collection has been used as an incredible educational resource as part of our ‘Art in Schools’ program in the Grimsby community.

In reference to our foundations in providing space and recognition for emerging artists, the Grimsby Public Art Gallery invites artists to submit 1-2 original works on paper to be exhibited in the Main Gallery. For this year’s show and sale, works on paper of any medium will be considered – including print, photography, watercolour, pastel, multi-media, etc. – so long as the format is indeed on paper. Multiples are welcome and encouraged. Works do not have to be mounted or ready to hang. All works will be available for sale in our Main Gallery with an opening reception to kick off the sale.

To celebrate 50 years of art in Grimsby and support the GPAGs 50th anniversary programming, sale profits will be split 50/50 between the Gallery and the Artist.

All submissions must be received by the deadline of November 10, 2024. Art submitted to On Paper will be juried in house by the GPAG curatorial staff. All successful applicants will be notified of the selection committee’s decision via email by November 12, 2024.
