Call for Submissions:
2024 Exhibitions at Ascent Gallery

Ascent Gallery invites emerging visual artists from Toronto to submit applications to exhibit and sell their work in 2024. Ascent Gallery is a new gallery opening in the fall of 2023 on the lower level of the Etobicoke Civic Centre, dedicated to celebrating and showcasing works by under-represented artists.

Who can apply?
Emerging artists and collectives can submit applications. Emerging artists are defined as artists who have begun to exhibit their work in a public context, having a limited amount of experience in the field but beginning to gain recognition for their artwork through gallery exhibitions, grants, commissions or sales of their work and are at least 18 years of age. This includes artists with an exhibition record of five years or less, artists who have been practicing for five years or less and post-secondary students.

Fee
$350.00 +HST, for a full 9 to 10-week exhibition in 2024. There is no fee to apply. Only approved applicants are required to pay the exhibition fee. The gallery takes no commission on sales.

About Ascent Gallery:
In 2023, the Ascent Gallery opened on Level 1 of the Etobicoke Civic Centre’s Central Block. Dedicated to emerging artists, the Ascent Gallery welcomes emerging individual artists and/or artist collectives, with a focus on artists who identify as IBPOC, disabled persons and 2SLGBTQIA+. The gallery is owned and operated by the City of Toronto, Arts Services.

The gallery is a public space, displaying artworks in the halls on the lower floor of the Etobicoke Civic Centre. Wall space is approximately 80 feet.

Call for Submissions:
2024 Artist Residency Program at Clark Centre for the Arts

The Clark Centre for the Arts invites (up to) mid-career artists from Toronto to submit applications to our Artist Residency Program.

Artist Residency Program
The Clark’s Artist Residency program provides professional artists in Toronto with opportunities to think, experiment, work and create in an artistic lakeside yet urban environment. The residency will conclude with a one-month exhibition in Gallery 191.

The artist will receive:

  • The use of an artist-in-residence studio space during operating hours, with a monthly schedule approved in advance by the site
  • Exhibition space in Gallery 191 at the Clark Centre for the Arts for one month in 2024
  • Promotion of the exhibition through established City of Toronto public relations channels
  • $500 in art supplies to go towards creating your Gallery 191 exhibition
  • Clark Centre for the Arts will support connecting the recipient to the community and art networks, and/or help artist in pursuing outside grants for the term of the residency

Who can apply?

  • Applicant must be a resident of the City of Toronto and must not be enrolled in any arts degree or diploma program
  • The residency opportunity is open to professional artists
  • Each of the two residency positions is for an individual, not a collective
  • All works must conform to the City of Toronto Human Rights and Anti-Harassment/Discrimination Policy and be suitable for a general audience
  • City of Toronto employees are ineligible to apply to the program

  • No fee is required for submitting an application
  • Applications received after the submission deadline will not be considered
  • All applications are assessed by a jury made of invited jurors and staff

Call for Submissions:
2024 Exhibitions at Gallery 191

The Clark Centre for the Arts invites visual artists from Toronto to submit applications to exhibit their work in 2024. Rentals are available monthly between January and December 2024. Gallery 191 spans three floors and must be rented together. Art works must be exhibited for the full term of the monthly rental.

Fee
Rental rates are $1,040 per month (HST included).

In-kind (Free) Rentals
Two months are reserved throughout the year for in-kind exhibitions that allows qualifying applicants to secure the gallery space for one-month at no charge.

To be eligible for the in-kind program, applicants must complete an application and be a resident of Toronto.
