Call for Showcase Performers & Short Films: Duende Flamenco Festival 2023

Don’t miss the Aga Khan Museum’s ninth annual Duende Flamenco Festival, running from November 16–19, 2023. Celebrate the fiery world of flamenco with film screenings, music, and live performances by prolific artists from all over the world, including award-winning flamenco artist, Eduardo Guerrero.

This year’s festival celebrates the cross-cultural practice of the art form which spans from the Middle East to Japan to the Americas. Explore the multi-disciplinary nature of flamenco, and its continually evolving modes of expression through an exciting celebration of dance, music, and film.

Do you want to be a part of the celebration? This year, three select artists or groups will be featured in a showcase celebrating the Canadian flamenco community. Each artist or group will receive a fee of $2,000 CAD. Apply to perform in the showcase on November 19.

Have a 5–10-minute flamenco film to share? Throughout this year’s festival, select flamenco films will be screened on rotation in the Bellerive Room. Each film will receive a payment of $200 CAD. Submit your film here.

The deadline date for submissions is May 31, 2023.

The Duende Flamenco Festival is curated by Carmen Romero, artistic director and principal dancer of Toronto’s Compañía Carmen Romero.
