Artist Opportunity
The Postmark Hotel invites artists to submit a portfolio of completed work for long-term loans for a selection of the hotel’s guest rooms.

Work will be installed for approximately 5 years. At the conclusion of the term, work is returned to the artist. An artist fee of $3,750 will be paid to each artist for a 5 year loan, paid in annual installments of $750.

Work may also be considered for exhibition elsewhere in the hotel (terms and loan fees vary), or for purchase.

Background and context
Scheduled to open in late spring 2023, The Postmark Hotel is a sister property to Toronto’s Gladstone House (established 1889) and The Broadview Hotel (established 1891). Like the other two properties, The Postmark Hotel is a heritage building (built in 1914) and its name is a nod to its former life as the town’s post office. This landmark on Main Street will feature 55 guest rooms, a lobby bar and bistro, and panoramic rooftop restaurant and event space.

The hotel experiences are centered on creativity, inclusivity, community and delight. Each hotel showcases work by local and regional artists, and this call is part of the Postmark’s extensive art program.

Eligibility
This call is open to professional artists who reside within a 60 km radius of Newmarket or have a meaningful personal connection to Newmarket (eg. former resident, family roots).

NOTE: If you applied for The Postmark Hotel’s call to artists in the fall of 2022, you do not need to apply for this opportunity – your work will automatically be considered.

Submission requirements
Artists submit a portfolio of work that is complete and available. One application per artist.

• 3-5 images of works that are available. The works must be a body of similar work that makes a unified visual statement. Visit our website for a list of accepted media and sizes.
