StreetARToronto Call for Artists:
Concrete Barriers – Evelyn-Wiggins Cycle Track Project
The StreetARToronto Cycle Track Art Project celebrates diversity, inclusion, and the health and wellness benefits of active transportation and a vibrant public realm!
StreetARToronto (StART) comprises a suite of innovative programs specifically designed for streets and public spaces. StART programs encourage active transportation (walking and cycling), to make our streets more inviting and safe. These programs aim to reduce overall infrastructure maintenance costs, showcase local artists, mentor emerging talent, and create opportunities for positive engagement among residents, business owners, operators, artists, and arts organizations. Individually and collectively StART murals are designed to celebrate the City of Toronto motto “Diversity Our Strength” and foster a greater sense of belonging among all. StART welcomes and actively seeks out partners for initiatives that support program objectives and works closely with partnership staff in other City divisions and agencies and supports City partnership activities.
Applications are due by May 5th, 2023 at 11:59PM EDT.

Theme
The Evelyn-Wiggins Cycle Track Project will not have a specific theme. Through our team’s research and with the help of our Community Survey, we have learned more about the site history and context and will provide an overview to artists upon acceptance of their request for Expressions of Interest, ahead of the design submission stage to help inform their designs.
There are a total of 46 barriers on the road, therefore there will only be one section of painting and road closure on this project, and each artist will be painting a maximum of two barriers. There will be no exceptions made, and we encourage emerging artists to apply. There will not be a digital art vinyl wrap section on this project.
Colour Palette
This year, the colour palette for the Evelyn-Wiggins Cycle Track Project will be open. More design details and information will be shared with artists upon acceptance of their initial Expression of Interest in the project.

Project Information
This project requires extensive planning and collaboration with many departments within the City of Toronto. For the safety of the crew and all the artists we will be closing this section of Evelyn-Wiggins Drive during the painting period.
The road closure and painting will take place between June 17th to 25th.
Please do not apply to this project if you are unavailable during this timeframe.
Our project Prep Crew will be etching and priming all the concrete barriers prior to the artist’s arrival. Your concrete barrier(s) will be labelled before-hand and you will be provided a map to locate them along the roadway prior to your arrival to the site.
*Please note: applications are due by midnight, May 5th, 2023. Applications will be closed at that time.
**All in-person mural projects are subject to Toronto Public Health COVID-19 Guidelines and Protocols. Up to date COVID-19 information will be provided to you ahead of on-site painting.
