Call for Expressions of Interest:
igNIGHT – Art Illuminated
Public Art Wood Buffalo
igNIGHT is seeking lead artists of all disciplines! From performing, visual, new media and beyond, this opportunity is open to all who can align a project with the curatorial theme, offer mentorship opportunities and deliver the project for the duration of the 10-day exhibition.
The 2023 edition of igNIGHT is focused on building a collaborative community and providing mentorship opportunities for local creatives to work with lead artists or collectives. Together they will deliver a final piece that uses light at the heart of the artwork and aligns with the theme of Transportation.

About igNIGHT Art Illuminated
igNIGHT is a 10-day temporary public art exhibition that aims to engage the interest and imagination of the public using illuminated artworks at the heart of the exhibition. The inaugural exhibition took place in 2014 and 2023 marks the 7th edition of igNIGHT and will occur from October 13-22, 2023.
Curatorial Theme: Transportation
In a world that is constantly changing, transportation is the consistent link connecting us all.
Humans are innately nomadic and transportation over land, water, sky and now space has continuously evolved. From moving goods using a horse drawn carriage to air dropping by drone, humans are always engineering methods that optimize getting from one place to another.
In the future, it is expected that transportation will become much faster, safer, and more sustainable. Methods for getting from point A to point B may not yet be known to our current world!
igNIGHT invites artists to explore this theme and think how they can work collaboratively to build a final installation to be exhibited from October 13-22, 2023.
“There are so many ways to interpret this underlying theme. From the transport of light, sound or physical beings, the possibilities are endless. Transport us with your vision!”– Sharon Heading, Public Art Committee
