Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf
The Origin of Shadows

Submission Deadline: April 4, 2025

The organizers of the Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf (BILP) are calling on artists in the process of becoming professionals who wish to work with linen (fibre, thread, fabric) and who are interested in participating in an exhibition presented at the Presbytère Saint-Charles in Grondines as part of the BILP 2025. The BILP is held in odd-numbered years at various locations in Deschambault-Grondines.

Theme: The Origin of Shadows

The slightest thread of light appearing in the darkness allows us to distinguish some elements of the scenery. While light helps reveal reality, it can also create illusions by casting shadows that transform or distort it. Emerging artists are invited to explore these fleeting moments during which shadows become the bearers of invented stories, mystery and poetry.

Project Requirements

  • Create a work measuring: in 2D: 40 x 40 cm – in 3D: 50 x 50 x 50 cm
  • This work must be inspired by the theme imposed by the BILP, The Origin of Shadows
  • The work must contain at least 50% linen (fiber, thread, fabric)

Eligibility

  • Be aged 35 or under
  • Be a CĂ©gep or university student or have completed their studies within the last two years

Compensation

Artists who are selected will receive a $200 exhibition fee.

Selection Process

  • The works will be subject to a selection process under the aegis of the BILP
  • The interest of the research carried out in relation to linen will be an important criterion in the choice of works
  • Written confirmation of receipt of the application will be sent by e-mail
  • The selection of works will take place on April 30, 2025
  • Artists whose work is selected will be contacted in early May 2025
  • They will then be asked to sign a commitment to participate
  • Reception of works no later than May 25, 2025, by regular mail, at the participant’s expense
  • Participants will be invited to a special opening event on Saturday, June 14, 2025
