Cedar Ridge Creative Centre Summer Residency Program

The Cedar Ridge Summer Residency welcomes one visual artist (during Centre hours) from July 4 to August 11, 2023, culminating in a September exhibit of the resident’s work in the Cedar Ridge Gallery. The residency offers a working environment that supports the artistic process for emerging and mid-career artists.
The 2023 Residency site is The Gardener’s Cottage, nestled in the Cedar Ridge park and gardens, overlooking a ravine with the Highland Creek below. The cottage is adjacent to the Cedar Ridge Main House, which holds galleries and instructional art studios.

Eligibility
- Applicants must be residents of the City of Toronto and must not be enrolled in any arts degree or diploma program
- Emerging artists are defined as artists who have recently completed post-secondary training in the arts and/or have begun to exhibit their work in a public context, having a limited amount of experience in the field but beginning to gain recognition for their artwork through gallery exhibitions, grants, commissions or sales of their work
- Mid-career artists are defined as artists that have specialized training in the arts and have maintained an independent professional practice for at least three years, are recognized as a professional artist by their peers, have produced an independent body of work and have made at least three public presentations of work in a professional context over a three-year period
- All works must conform to the City of Toronto Human Rights and Anti-Harassment/Discrimination Policy and be suitable for a general audience
The artist will receive a residency package valued at $6000, which includes:
- The use of the Gardener’s Cottage studio during Centre hours
- Exhibition space at the Cedar Ridge Gallery for two weeks in September 2023
- Promotion of final exhibition through established City of Toronto channels
- $500 in art supplies
- Cedar Ridge Creative Centre’s support connecting the recipient to the community, art networks and/or to pursue outside grants for the term of their residency

Responsibilities
- Recipient is responsible for all production costs in excess of the $500 in art supplies provided
- Recipient must work in the studio a minimum of 15 hours per week, during operating hours
- Recipient will be required to give an artist talk and offer one community workshop at Cedar Ridge
- Recipient must actively participate in the promotion of the program, the site and the opening reception through their own networks and effort
Submission Requirements
- Cover letter, maximum 1 page
- Artist statement (including the media, technique, theme or context of your artwork), maximum 1 page
- Up-to-date curriculum vitae, maximum 3 pages
- Maximum of 10 digital images of recent works
- Corresponding list of images containing title, dimensions and medium
Image Specifications
- PC-compatible files only
- JPEG format only
- Image resolution: 72 dpi – 300 dpi
- Image size: Maximum of 500KB
- RGB or SRGB colour mode files only
- Images must be labelled: name of applicant title of the work, followed by a number (example: J.Doe_Untitled_01)
Do not submit
- MAC files that are not fully PC compatible
- Any type of presentation format
- Zipped or other compressed files
- Any digital materials that require software, plugins, extensions or other executables to be downloaded or installed will not be reviewed
Process
- No fee is required for submitting an application
- Applications received after the submission deadline will not be considered
- Candidates will be contacted via email. All decisions will be final
