Alchemy 2024 Artist Residency

Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada
Program Dates:
August 6 – 21, 2024
Deadline to Apply: April 15, 2024

ALCHEMY is an artist-led international residency exploring the common themes between artistic practice and the growing, cooking and sharing of food in community settings. Since 2017, this residency has taken place in rural Hillier, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada, during the harvest season.

ALCHEMY 2024 plans to host and curate 8-10 artists for two weeks in August 2024. Participating artists may:

  • Offer a (paid) community artist talk, workshop or demonstration.
  • Pursue studio work, likely in a local community public space.
  • Participate in Open Studio events during the Residency.
  • Be paired with a local artist, winery or farm in order to consider work in situ.

Two long-time collaborators will facilitate Alchemy 2024’s programming. Claire M Tallarico is a visual artist and trained chef whose social practice explores how the everyday activities of artmaking and food sharing can contribute to the well-being of artists and further community engagement for a community and its citizens. Tonia Di Risio is a visual artist whose work has developed through ongoing investigations of the growing, making, preserving, celebrating, and sharing of food.

Artists who wish to live in a community setting while making art and sharing meals are encouraged to apply. Applications must include an artist’s CV, an artist statement, a letter of intent, and images from the artist’s website. The accommodation (shared or single), programming, and coordination costs are between $1050 and 1150 plus HST per artist. Updates to the bursary and artist fee info will be posted when available on our website.
