The 315 Artist in Residence Program is part of Brookfield Properties’ global Arts & Events initiative, proudly rooted in Calgary, Alberta. Situated in the heart of the Downtown Core, our properties – Bankers Hall, Bankers Court, Brookfield Place, Fifth Avenue Place, and Suncor Energy Centre – play a vital role in supporting the city’s energy and vibrancy.

At Bankers Hall, we’ve created a studio for artists to work, explore, and bring bold ideas to life. Through this program, artists are given the opportunity to create large-scale works that are exhibited throughout our Downtown Calgary portfolio, enhancing the everyday experience in our city. Our aim is to empower artists in corporate settings, equip them with soft skills, and provide them with opportunities to commercialize their work.

Project Requirements

Within the 8-month residency, the artist is expected to create the proposed artwork, lead at least one tenant engagement event (i.e., a workshop, artist talk, or gallery experience), and prepare for the exhibit. Each residency will include a minimum of one commercialization project. Programming can be determined with the Brookfield Properties team once started.

The exhibit tour will be free and accessible to the public. The artwork created will not be defamatory, discriminatory, disrespectful or dangerous in any sense, including but not limited to religious beliefs, identity, or physical form. The artwork created in the residency must consider one or more of our core values: Education, DEI, and Creativity.

Eligibility

• We are looking for artists with an entrepreneurial spirit, expertise in their craft, experience with large-scale projects, and an interest in commercialization.
• Artists will have the opportunity to challenge and build their capacities, familiarize themselves with corporate procedures and administrative tasks, plus navigate professional relationships.

Compensation

• One-time $33,000 artist fee
• Exclusive access to 4,400+ square feet of studio space for 8 months
• 24-hour building security
• Wi-Fi, private restroom, kitchenette, freight elevator and loading dock access
• Opportunities to represent your work commercially
• Up to $6,000 in exhibit fees for the touring of the artwork throughout Brookfield Properties Calgary’s portfolio
• Installation, shipping, and handling costs within Brookfield Properties Calgary

Selection Process

All candidates being considered will be contacted for an interview. We will only consider applications that have a fully developed concept for the artwork they will create as part of the 315 Artist in Residence program.

Artist interviews: November – December 2025
Artist selection: December 2025
Residency: January – August 2026

Application Requirements

• A proposal with a description of the artwork that will be created as part of the residency. Please include a list of materials and tools needed to complete your work.
• A CV and/or portfolio of relevant experience that demonstrates your creative practice.
• An artist bio along with a statement on why you are applying for this program.
• Contact information and any accessibility requests or considerations.
• Skills, tools, resources, and support that you hope to achieve from Brookfield Properties through this residency.
• A media kit, including professional headshots and any personal branding elements (i.e., logo, brand colours, QR code).
• A minimum of two (2) professional references.
