Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the Art Gallery Manager/Curator is responsible for the overall operation of the Grimsby Public Art Gallery (GPAG), a division of the municipality that supports and promotes art programs and services within the community. This position plays a key role in fostering the creative and cultural heritage of Grimsby through meaningful engagement with artists, community members, and various groups, ensuring alignment with the gallery’s purpose and goals.

The Art Gallery Manager/Curator develops and implements dynamic, relevant exhibitions and special events, while also ensuring the delivery of educational and recreational programs for all ages that complement and enhance these exhibitions. A core aspect of the role involves preserving the town’s visual and cultural heritage through the development and stewardship of the gallery’s Permanent Collection. Financial management is also central to the position, including the preparation and administration of the gallery’s budget in accordance with municipal directives, as well as actively pursuing grants, donations, and other revenue-generating opportunities to maintain fiscal stability.

The Manager/Curator is responsible for leading and supporting a team of qualified staff to ensure effective and sustainable gallery operations and for maintaining current and relevant policies and procedures. Uniquely positioned within the municipality, this role serves not only as the operational lead of a vibrant public art gallery but also as a key member of the Community Services team, ensuring that the gallery’s artistic and cultural initiatives are closely aligned with broader municipal goals to enhance civic engagement and cultural enrichment.

The ideal candidate will possess a post-secondary degree in Art History, Fine Art, or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of progressive experience in an art gallery or museum setting, including at least two years of supervisory experience. The candidate should have considerable curatorial experience, strong grant writing and financial management skills, and preferably, experience within a municipal setting. Additional requirements include Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, a valid and unrestricted Class “G” driver’s licence with access to reliable transportation for travel throughout the Town, and the ability to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) or Judicial Matters Check.

The Town of Grimsby offers candidates for this position a competitive employment package that includes an annual salary between $86,682 and $105,463 (2025 rates) and a comprehensive benefits plan.
