The DesignTO Festival brings people together to celebrate design’s role in creating a sustainable, just and joyful world with 100+ free exhibitions and events across the city January 19-28, 2024.

Join the Festival to become a part of an exciting network of creative people, exhibitions, events, and an audience of designers and design-lovers. Since 2011, DesignTO Festival has welcomed almost one million visitors, showcased the work of 6K+ artists and designers, and reached 1.8B+ users through print and digital media.

6 Ways to Participate

1. Apply the 2023-24 DesignTO Youth Program
Deadline: Friday, September 8, 2023

This is for you if:
You are an artist, designer, or creative person aged 18 to 29 working in all mediums and formats and living in Ontario.

Benefits:
Meet new people in an accessible, inclusive online environment, attend 6 online sessions with fantastic guest artists and speakers, get access to an opportunity to apply to show your work in a group exhibition during the DesignTO Festival in January 2024, and more.

2. Apply to our Guest Designer Program
Deadline: Monday, September 11, 2023

This is for you if:
You are a designer or artist who is looking for a free venue for your exhibition, event, or window installation.

Benefits:
Selecting from a range of great host venues, showcasing your creative work to a diverse audience, visibility on our website and mobile apps, and more.

3. Submit to speak at the DesignTO Symposium: ‘Dematerialized’
Deadline: Friday, September 22, 2023

This is for you if:
You are a designer, educator, or thinker exploring the complexities of dematerialization: both its benefits and drawbacks. Talks may be about current research or case studies, new products or technologies, spaces or experiences, speculative design or strategies, or new processes or policies.

Benefits:
Sharing your work with a broad audience, receiving a speaker fee, meeting other leaders in the field, visibility on our website and mobile apps, and more.

4. Submit to the thematic exhibition: ‘Future Matters’
Deadline: Friday, September 22, 2023

This is for you if:
You are a designer or artist working in material expression, innovation and environmental sustainability. The exhibition celebrates the transformative potential of materials, unveiling a tapestry of possibilities that have shaped our past, present and future.

Having your work featured alongside artists and designers in one of DesignTO’s core exhibitions, receiving an artist fee, visibility on our website and mobile apps, and more.

5. Submit to the prototype exhibition: ‘Lucid Ideas’
Deadline: Friday, October 6, 2023

This is for you if:
You are a designer anywhere in the world exploring translucency through concept, material and form. The exhibition invites designers to consider how the material quality of translucency could be considered in homeware design.

Benefits:
Having your work featured alongside artists and designers in one of DesignTO’s core exhibitions. Also be considered for addition to Umbra’s growing roster of quality products, to be manufactured, distributed, and sold through the Umbra brand, with royalty.

6. Produce Your Own Independent Project
Deadline: Friday, October 6, 2023

This is for you if:
You are an artist, designer, design firm, local business, academic/cultural institution, or a student that has an event, exhibition, or window installation you want to self-produce and register with the Festival.

Benefits:
Showcasing your creative work to a diverse audience of designers and design-lovers, joining Toronto’s creative community, visibility on our website and mobile apps, and more.

You should know:
You are entirely responsible for your project’s content and venue.
