Show Your Work at the 12th Annual DesignTO Festival, January 21-30, 2022

The DesignTO Festival brings people together to celebrate contemporary design across the city January 21-30, 2022.

Join the Festival to become a part of an exciting network of creative people, exhibitions, events, and an audience of designers and design-lovers. Since 2011, the DesignTO Festival has welcomed over 600,000 visitors, worked with over 5,000 artists and designers, and reached over 475 million users through print and digital media.

5 Ways to Participate

1. Apply to our Guest Designer Program
Deadline: Monday, September 13, 2021

This is for you if:
You are a designer or artist who is looking for a free venue for your exhibition, event, or window installation.

Benefits:
Select from a range of great host venues, showcase your creative work to a diverse audience, visibility on our website and mobile apps, and more.

2. Submit Your Work for our Prototype Exhibition: ‘Purpose & Play’
Deadline: Friday, September 24, 2021

This is for you if:
You are a Canadian designer or artist (based in Canada or abroad) who wants to create an original houseware and/or working product that considers opportunities for joy, humour, play, multiple functions, personalization, entertainment, and more.

Benefits:
Have your work featured at the Umbra Store, receive an artist fee, and visibility on our website and mobile apps. All selected prototypes will also be considered for addition to Umbra’s growing roster of quality products, to be manufactured, distributed, and sold through the Umbra brand, with royalty.

3. Submit a Talk to the DesignTO Symposium: ‘No Such Thing as Normal’
Deadline: Friday, September 24, 2021

This is for you if:
You are a designer, educator, or thinker exploring how we can dismantle the long-accepted idea of “normal,” in order to design for diversity. Talks may be about current research or case studies, new products or technologies, spaces or experiences, speculative design or strategies, or new processes or policies.

Benefits:
Share your work with a broad audience, receive a speaker fee, meet other leaders in the field, visibility on our website and mobile apps, and more.

4. Submit to the FLDWRK x DesignTO Residency: ‘6ft (a)part’
Deadline: Friday, September 24, 2021

This is for you if:
You are a designer with ideas that can meaningfully impact your community, through investigation, speculation and production. ‘6ft (a)part’ calls for a new spatial contract that will reshape our everyday life.

Benefits:
Collaborate with other residency designers and representatives of FLDWRK and DesignTO, share your work in a public presentation, visibility on our website and mobile apps, and more.

5. Produce Your Own Independent Project
Deadline: Friday, October 8, 2021

This is for you if:
You are an artist, designer, design firm, local business, academic/cultural institution, or a student that has an event, exhibition, or window installation you want to self-produce and register with the Festival.

Benefits:
Showcase your creative work to a diverse audience of designers and design-lovers, meet artists and designers, visibility on our website and mobile apps, and more.

You should know:
You are entirely responsible for your project’s content and venue.
