TIFF Wavelengths Presents is pleased to present Handmade Autofictions of Lesley Loksi Chan, a showcase of the filmmaker’s short films programmed by film curator and writer Aaditya Aggarwal. Through her process-based, handmade cinema, Hamilton-born artist-filmmaker Lesley Loksi Chan contemplates the lives of others, communing with the objects they leave behind. From early 20th-century Japanese-American photographer Frank Sakae Matsura, to Wanda, an eye patch–wearing former sex worker and now-single mother, to an unnamed narrator who revisits her sequestered maternity home from her teen years, to Lloyd Wong, the late Chinese-Canadian video artist who lived with AIDS in the 1990s, Chan conspires with her realized, if not always real, subjects to establish a versatile array of autofictions.
