The Cost of Creative Work: Pricing Products and Services
This course builds a foundation for students to set and manage pricing for creative works. It begins with an examination of the historical construction of value and how perceived value affects market pricing. Using tools to set and manage prices, students will understand the value of their product and service, learn to build an appropriate price framework and price strategy, monitor the market, react to competition, negotiate price agreements, and establish best practices. Starts online, September 8.

Entrepreneurship for Artists and Designers: Turning Your Idea into a Viable Business
In this course, students will explore the business potential of their own creative ideas. Students are introduced to research tools and fundamental business planning principals. Topics include business models, business strategy case studies, developing markets, budgeting, decision making, business trends, risk analysis, operating systems, finance, and legal issues. Students will use this information to understand if and how their idea could become a viable business and create a detailed business plan. Starts online, September 9.

Drawing Skills Studio
This course is geared towards artists, designers, illustrators, and animators who wish to sharpen or refresh their hand drawing skills. Building on students’ knowledge of basic drawing elements, such as line, shape, value, and composition, this course expands the student’s observational and technical skills to create accurate drawings of architecture, nature, and the human form. Please note this course includes drawing the human figure from a live nude model. Starts in-person, September 6.

Landscape Painting Studio
Building on basic painting skills, this course is designed for the beginner or intermediate painter who would like to develop landscape painting skills. Course topics include fundamental composition development, colour mixing, tonal values, and under-painting, with a focus on individual expression and developing a personal visual vocabulary. Students will be guided through surface techniques including brushwork, texture creation, compositional and conceptual decision-making, and colour choices. Studio work will be supported by tutorials and discussions that explore examples of contemporary landscape painting, content, technique and style. Starts in-person, September 9.

Online Exhibition: Highlighting the Overlooked
OCAD U School of Continuing Studies presents an online exhibition showcasing artworks from participants in the ArtWorksTO program. This exhibition explores topics linked to identities that are often overlooked in society while bringing about awareness and appreciation for universal themes such as transformation and belonging. The six artists draw from personal, communal, and diasporic experiences to create works that highlight the shaping of identity through human connections. View the exhibition.

RBC Continuing Studies Creative Professional Skills Fund for Human-Centred Design is now accepting applications
Thanks to the generous support of RBC, qualifying applicants may receive financial assistance to enrol in the Human-Centred Design Certificate at OCAD U School of Continuing Studies. The fund provides a 60% reduction on the full price of the certificate fee. Interested individuals must apply to demonstrate evidence of financial need.
