Winter Courses @ GAS

Registration is now open for the following two courses at Gerrard Art Space / GAS INC.

Drawing For Beginners

This class will introduce the student to the fundamentals of drawing from the figure. Drawing is a visual language that teaches how to see: the student will develop an understanding of the visual language used to describe form. In this case the human form.

By learning the fundamentals of drawing, a substantial base is created for further learning: painting, sculpture, printmaking and design to name but a few disciplines. The following elements will be covered in this course: gesture, form, line, volume, light, proportion/scale, anatomy, and composition. Every class will progress from short to long poses.

Tuesdays, January 17 – February 28, 2023, 6-9pm
(no class Feb. 7th)

Course Fee: $350 + HST
(includes fee for model; does not include materials)

Stone Carving

Mondays, January 23 – March 20, 2023, 6pm – 9:00pm
(No class Feb. 20-Family Day)

Course Fee: $250 (includes materials) + HST
Materials & tools will be provided.

Deadline for registration & payment: January 13th, 2023

This course introduces students to all the steps of stone carving.
By the end of the course, students would have completed a stone carving about 5″ tall.

The course will cover the following:

  • Sketching out the form
  • Modelling in plasticine
  • Carving in stone and polishing
  • Intro & handling of carving tools ie, files, rasps, and different sandpaper grits.
