Join us for a special artists talk on the opening day of the exhibition Marie-Claire Blais: Veilsat the McMichael, part of our trio of solo exhibitions by women artists from Quebec. Artists Marie-Claire Blais and Jeremy Laing will be in conversation on March 9 at 2 pm exploring the many legacies that infuse their work, from minimalism to Mexican textiles and beyond. The discussion will be led by Chief Curator Sarah Milroy and Jessica Bradley, curator of the Blais exhibition.

About the Artists

Marie-Claire Blais(b. 1974, Lévis) is a leading light of contemporary art in Montreal, yet until now her work has not been presented in a major Canadian museum. Blais extends the language of abstraction into the contemporary movement, painting on canvas and then cutting, shredding and unraveling the painting surface to produce subtle works that hover between sculpture and painting.

Jeremy Laing(b. 1980, Peterborough) is a Toronto-based artist and designer. A graduate of the Ryerson School of Fashion he launched his first collection in 2005 and has shown at New York Fashion Week. Since 2014, he has worked as a design consultant focusing on textiles, apparel, and interiors.
