Behaviour Swarm: Exploring Performative Practices
June 3 – July 5, 2019

Imagine this residency as a hive of inventors, continuously searching for ways to make each other laugh and permuting every facet of reality. Performance artists, dancers, escapees from the theatre, experimental comedians, abstract clowns, and visual artists who have way too much energy for their own good — we invite you to this hive to exaggerate life to its fullest!

Banff Artist in Residence Summer
July 22 – August 23, 2019
Application deadline: March 6

This program is designed for visual artists to focus on their own practice in a supportive learning environment. Participants are encouraged to explore new ideas, create, self-direct their research and time, and cultivate new directions in their work — all while surrounded by a community of peers within Banff Centre’s spectacular mountain setting.

Rebuilding Summer Cultural Trade Routes: Indigenous Arts Multidisciplinary Residency
July 30 – August 31, 2019
Application deadline: March 6

This self-directed residency will explore reconciliation through creative process from an Indigenous perspective in a contemporary world. The program aims to rebuild and reclaim the ancient cultural trade routes that define the ground we stand on within the Bow Valley. Participants can learn from Indigenous artists, Elders, and community members who will bring their art making skills and traditional knowledge to the program. Emerging to professional artists as well as community members who are interested in exploring a new, multidisciplinary avenue into art are encouraged to apply.

Preparatorial Practicum
August 5, 2019 – September 7, 2020
Application deadline: May 29

The Walter Phillips Gallery Preparatorial Practicum program offers the participant hands-on opportunities working alongside the gallery’s preparator and curator. Direct mentorship and support is provided to develop the participant’s skills in preventative conservation, art handling, installation techniques, and museum standards in environmental conditions (including appropriate humidity, temperature, and lighting levels).
