Universities Art Association of Canada Conference 2025

UAAC-AAUC Conference 2025
October 16–19, 2025
York University, Toronto
In an era defined by climate crisis, contested histories, decolonization, and rapid shifts in digital technologies, the Universities Art Association of Canada (UAAC-AAUC) Conference 2025 creates a vital space for dialogue. Hosted by the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) at York University this year, the conference convenes over 200 speakers and 60+ sessions, offering a national forum to engage with urgent questions in art, culture, and society.
The UAAC-AAUC Conference is a space of exchange. Dedicated presentations and panel discussions address how art shapes collective memory, resistance, and resilience. The conference fosters connections across generations and geographies, sparking collaboration between established scholars and those shaping new directions.
Participants will encounter research-creation practices and proposals for new forms of care and resistance in the arts, explore the Publisher’s Hall, experience the Marginal Futurisms: Media Exhibition, and engage in urgent conversations about how art can contribute to collective futures.
The conference program reflects the breadth of contemporary inquiry and practice:
◦ Monuments, Memory & Metacrisis: From contested memorials to digital ruins, participants reimagine monuments and collective testimony in precarious times.
◦ Equity, Decolonization & Indigenous/Ancestral Methodologies: Addressing settler colonialism, counter-archives, and the power of Indigenous and ancestral knowledge.
◦ Queer / Gender / Trans / Feminist Practice & Resistance: Queer futurism, feminist art, craft and motherhood, and embodied resistance.
◦ Technology, Digital & Extended Realities: Media art, archives, emergent technologies, and human–machine interaction.
◦ Activism, Social Justice & Care: Climate justice, solidarity, migration, displacement, incarceration, and transformative advocacy.
◦ Art Practice, Research-Creation & Experimental Forms: Speculative futurism, collaboration, and more-than-human perspectives.
◦ Materiality, Craft, Object Histories & Collections: Textiles, narrative quilting, craft resistance, and object circulation.
