Through the Storm is a gathering of the national media arts community mobilizing collective experience and insight to respond to long-running and complex issues for artists, collectives, and organisations. Based on topic streams, attendees will meet online prior to the in-person gathering producing statements, manifestos, and policies to shape the coming years.

This next gathering will be held on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation in Ottawa as a joint project of Digital Arts Resource Centre (DARC), Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMMA), Media Arts Network Ontario (MANO), Asinabka, and National Indigenous Media Arts Coalition (NIMAC). The in person component of the gathering will be held August 10-14, 2022.

Fees for online only participation are $30
Fees for the complete gathering are $180 for IMAA/NIMAC and MANO Members
$240 non-members
(Fees for the complete gathering include snacks and lunch, as well as an Asinabka Film and Media Arts Festival Pass).

The conference centres on four stream-based thematic working groups meeting online to consider, discuss, debate, weigh, and work through the material impact of these inquiries for the media arts. During the in-person gathering, working groups will present proposals, manifestos, and other material to the community in daily plenaries, along with time for consultations, conversations, creating publications and art works. The four streams listed below were conceived and outlined by the gathering’s organising committee and they are meant as a starting point.
