Oakville Galleries is an award-winning, not-for-profit contemporary art museum engaging communities throughout Oakville and wider audiences regionally, nationally and internationally with its exhibitions and publications. Currently in two locations—one alongside a public library in downtown Oakville, and the other in a lakeside mansion and park—Oakville Galleries is located 30 km west of Toronto and is easily accessible to more than 7-million people who live in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).

We are currently expanding our team and are looking to fill the following positions:

Gallery Assistant

Art Instructor, Oakville Galleries

Terms: Part-time Casual
Rate of Pay: $21/hour
Anticipated Start Date: March 1 2023
Work Location: Oakville, Ontario
Language of work: English / French

Nature and Scope of Position
Reporting to the Education Manager, the Art Instructor prepares and delivers a wide range of art-based activities to participants—children, youth, adults, and seniors—for Oakville Galleries’ camps, school programs, and community-based art programs. This is a part-time casual position with approximately 8-20 hours per week. Hours may include weekends and evenings.

The Art Instructor is typically stationed at Oakville Galleries’ Gairloch Gardens (1306 Lakeshore Road East) location or within school classroom settings within Halton Region.

General Responsibilities

  • To prepare, lead and deliver instructional art classes in a variety of artistic mediums (painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, etc.) to meet the needs of all participants registered in the program;
  • Assisting in the research and development of appropriate arts programming for beginner and practicing artists, ensuring that art activities are safe, creative, and inclusive of all program participants;
  • Evaluating and revising program activities on an ongoing basis and upon program conclusion;
  • Initiate discussions about and lead tours of the exhibitions on view;
  • Attending regular training and evaluation meetings as scheduled;
  • Maintaining a positive and safe learning environment for all participants;

Gallery Assistant, Oakville Galleries

Term: Part-time Casual
Anticipated Start Date: March 1, 2023
Work Location: Oakville, Ontario
Rate of Pay: $17.00 / hour
Working Language: English

Nature and Scope of Position
Reporting to the Education Manager and the Office, Operations, and Financial Manager, the Gallery Assistant engages the public in a discussion about Oakville Galleries’ exhibitions and programs and is responsible for the security of the works of art on view.

The Gallery Assistant is typically stationed at an open-air workstation at the entrance of Oakville Galleries’ Gairloch Gardens (1306 Lakeshore Road East) location or Centennial Square (120 Navy Street) location during the opening hours of each facility. They are a key member of the front-of-house team and serve as ambassadors of Oakville Galleries through their regular contact with members of the public.

General Responsibilities and Duties

  • Introduce visitors to Oakville Galleries’ exhibitions and programs;
  • Initiate discussions about and lead tours of the exhibitions on view;
  • Provide information for Oakville Galleries’ educational and public programs, and accept registrations and payments through our database;
  • Promote Oakville Galleries membership programs to visitors, and process membership registrations and payments through our database;
  • Process purchases of catalogs and other items through our online and in-person stores;
  • Maintain attendance records and complete daily task checklists;
  • Open and close the gallery spaces on time;
  • Provide assistance to the Education, Communications, Development, and Curatorial departments as required.

Marketing & Development Assistant

Terms: Part-time Contract: 21 hours / week

Oakville Galleries is seeking someone who is passionate about contemporary art and committed to working collaboratively in an environment that supports diversity and inclusion to fulfill the role of Part-ime Marketing & Development Assistant. The incumbent will support the needs of Oakville Galleries, its marketing projects, and its fundraising initiatives.

Nature and Scope of Position
Working closely with and reporting to both the Marketing & Communications Manager and the Development & Events Manager, the Marketing and Development Assistant collaborates with all departments to promote Oakville Galleries’ membership and to connect its audiences with programming, arts education, exhibitions, and events. This position plays a key role in the creation and production of digital content and print marketing materials such as sponsorship packages, brochures, one-sheets, graphics for social media, and online promotion as needed. The Assistant will also support fundraising events and targeted community outreach.

General Responsibilities

  • Creates digital media, graphics, printed marketing materials, animated and/or video content and cross-promotion materials as directed, at times in tandem with partner organizations and at times for focused community outreach.
  • Assists with communications for an array of events, including, but not limited to; fundraisers, artist talks, exhibition openings, membership and patron events.
  • Assists with Oakville Galleries’ membership programs and membership renewal process.
  • Supports the event planning and registration process, by maintaining accurate attendee, sponsor, and participant records in our CRM database.
  • Supports in-person events, programs and exhibitions at Oakville Galleries.
