The Mainframe Digital Initiative

Eastern Edge Artist-Run Centre

From June 2022 to July 2023, Eastern Edge Artist-Run Centre embarked on a new initiative titled Mainframe with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.

Mainframe increased access to resources like 3D printers, Augmented and Virtual Reality software, coding and circuit-building supplies, and other creative technologies. By inviting six artists from urban and rural locations, we delivered programming that supported a diversity of artists, mediums, practices, and career levels. Throughout the project, free educational workshops were provided on subjects ranging from the basics of web design to interactive textile circuits.

Mainframe has been a huge success and recently concluded with the launch of a website that showcases project artists Michael Lucenkiw, Nasim Makaremi Nia, Ale Monreal, Jane Walker, Brenda Reid, and Oz (B.G-Osborne).

The website is available on desktop and mobile. To visit, click here.

Established in 1984, Eastern Edge is Newfoundland and Labrador’s first artist-run centre for visual arts. Eastern Edge is committed to highlighting contemporary art that facilitates critical dialogue concerning issues in art and society. We provide a diversity of programs that appeal to artists of any age, race, language, or gender, creating a safe and engaging community where artistic practice at every level can thrive and every artist can be respected and celebrated.
