NOT YOUR USUAL STREET PARTY…
In addition to the spectacular headliners and musical performances, street food (and drink), face painting and games, The Bentway Block Party offers more.

AArrow Sign Spinners
AArrow Sign Spinners are some of the world’s most talented sign spinners that transform advertising into an artform. From street corners of Baltimore and Houston to The Bentway, they’ll be attracting attention performing jaw-dropping tricks that are part dance, part sport. Join us throughout the day as we present these incredible performers and try your hand at your own sign spinning tricks at our Freestyle on the Dancefloor in the afternoon.

Toronto Kiki Ballroom Alliance
The Toronto Kiki Ballroom Alliance is a for-youth-by-youth grassroots organization that started out of the need to bring Ballroom Arts and a sense of community to Toronto. Founded in 2010 by Twysted Miyake-Mugler and Legendary Motha Vixen as a space to nurture the needs of Black and other radicalized LGBTQI+ youth facing various barriers and trauma, the TKBA provides a safe space for LGBTQI+ youth to be seen, protected, and celebrated. The TKBA is modeled after the underground 1960’s New York Ballroom Scene, and for The Bentway Block Party they’ll light up the dancefloor with a fierce runway performance featuring Toronto’s Ballroom Legends.

Street Fashion Workshop & Fashion Show
Join us for the Street Fashion Workshop and Fashion Show, presented with Fashion Art Toronto. This workshop will be led by acclaimed Toronto fashion designer, Meesh. Micheline Wedderburn is a fashion designer, artist, and maker, with a fashion label under the name Meesh. Wedderburn creates wearable art by repurposing vintage fabrics and textiles, dying and painting on denim and incorporating unusual materials. She was sustainable before it was a thing.

The Bentway logo

The Bentway works to ignite the urban imagination, using the city as site, subject, and canvas. Anchored under Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway and guiding its complex future, The Bentway is a growing public space, and much more. It is a new type of civic organization: an independent charity and a not-for-profit, powered by vital partnerships with the City of Toronto, residents, supporters, artists, creatives, city-builders, and dreamers. The Bentway is a catalyst rooted in experimentation, demonstration, and regeneration; leading a creative movement to re-imagine the opportunities of urban spaces.

Since Phase 1 of The Bentway – under the Gardiner from Strachan Ave to Fort York Blvd – opened in 2018, it has proven to be a vital public space, backyard park, cultural platform, connector for the western Waterfront corridor and a demonstration of what is possible. In partnership with the City of Toronto, The Bentway is creating a network of public spaces, developing a cohesive vision for wayfinding and reconnecting the waterfront to the downtown core.

Visit thebentway.ca and follow @thebentway on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram for details about upcoming programming and projects.
