ARCHIVO: Activating Latin American Art Archives in Canada
11:30am – 1pm
Since 2023, Sur Gallery has hosted the ARCHIVO project, which digitally documents the contributions and trajectories of Latin American, Latin-Caribbean, and Latinx artists in Canada. ARCHIVO was born out of the need to archive a diaspora lacking resources, platforms, and forms of representation. Two years after ARCHIVO’s launch, Sur Gallery asks: how can the gallery further activate this project and involve communities? What possibilities for research become available? What are the challenges and opportunities of working with archives that cross borders, languages, and hemispheres? This panel gathers researchers, archivists, and artists offering an opportunity to imagine potential futures for ARCHIVO.
