Keith Bird: Spiritual Veterans
May 4 – June 16, 2019
In his recent paintings, Saulteaux and Cree artist Keith Bird honours Indigenous leaders and warriors of past and present, recognizing historical leaders such as Crazy Horse, Pound Maker, Geronimo, Chief Piapot and many others. Through Spiritual Veterans, Bird sheds light on the spirituality, strength and resilience of Indigenous veterans who have fought and continue to fight to protect land, culture and human dignity. The Experiment

This group exhibition brings together artists who work in collaboration with nature and rely on natural processes to make their work. The selected artists generate conditions where at various points during their artwork’s creation, the pieces begin to develop according to the laws of nature without artist intervention. The Experiment reminds viewers of the existence of entities that are larger and more powerful then human forces, encouraging closer looks at the natural world. Saimaiyu Akesuk and Cheryl Rondeau: Ice Spider / ᓯᑰᑉ ᐋᓯᕙᖓ
May 17 – July 11, 2019
Inspired by Saimaiyu Akesuk of Cape Dorset’s iconic 2014 drawing Red Spider, this experimental stop-motion, animated short film tells the story of the Arctic Wolf Spider, a common Northern arachnid. Climate change has increased the population, and predatory tendencies, of this carnivorous, cannibalistic spider. This sci-fi-influenced short animates the growing discourse around the ecological, political and cultural future of Canada’s Arctic. Curated by Blair Fornwald, Curator, Moving Image and Performance. Jay White: Coyote Walk
Performance: June 21 – June 23, 2pm – 2pm.
Tracking walk: June 23, 2pm.
For the Regina iteration of Coyote Walk by Jay White, an artist of European and Mi’kmaw descent living on Nex̱wlélex̱m/Bowen Island, BC. White will hide from other humans as he walks and camps around Regina. The walk ends prematurely if White is spotted by a human at close-range.
