Self-Directed Artist-in-Residence Program, Caetani Cultural Centre, Vernon, BC

FLEXIBLE, AFFORDABLE, EASY-GOING. A self-directed artist-in-residence program located in the Okanagan Valley – Canada’s fruit & wine country.

Here at the Caetani Cultural Centre, we believe that by offering artists time and space to deepen into their creative practice, away from the distractions of everyday life, everyone benefits.

You can design your self-directed AIR Program for a stay of anywhere between 2 weeks to 3 months.

This residency is perfect for visual artists, writers, researchers and creative types and open to emerging as well as established artists.

You’ll stay in a 3-bedroom shared suite at the Caetani Cultural Centre, a historic heritage house, walking distance from main street in the small town of Vernon, BC, Canada. You’ll also have the option to use one of our private backyard art studios (but we find writers usually choose to write in their cosy rooms.)

Current and upcoming availability in our Self-Directed AIR program:

Caetani Room (our biggest room, sofa, desk & queen bed.)
2019: Dec 2nd – Dec. 20th.
2020: Jan 7th – Feb 5th. Feb 24th onwards.

Fogliano Room: (our smallest, quietest, coziest room, desk & twin bed.)
2019: Nov. 19th – Dec. 20th.
2020: Jan. 7th – Feb 12th. March 17th – June 5th. July 24th onwards.

Sermoneta Room: (our mid-sized room, desk & queen bed.)
2019: Nov. 4th – Dec. 20th.
2020: Apr. 8th – 29th. Nov. 1st onwards.

Dates: ongoing availability (minimum 2 weeks, maximum 3 months)
Rates: between $10-$30 CAD/night depending on room + season

Included in the Residency: for a reasonable fee, artists stay in their own room with shared accommodations (kitchen, bathroom, living room, entryway) at the Caetani Cultural Centre (a heritage house walking distance of downtown Vernon.)

A private backyard art studio (one with a sink, one without) is available for an additional $5/night.

Extras: if desired, artists staying for 4 weeks or longer are offered the opportunity to teach a workshop and/or host a reading/presentation/etc. at no cost to them.

Not included in the residency: travel expenses, food, health insurance, art materials, shipping costs, exhibition costs and other personal expenses.

Deadline: applications accepted on an ongoing basis.
