Want to join a dynamic team that is working together to build a stronger and more vibrant arts scene and cultural community for the City of Mississauga? The Public Art Internship will provide current post-graduate students, recent graduates or emerging professionals with the opportunity for hands-on experience in the development and implementation of municipal public art projects.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Curator, Public Art, the successful candidate will participate in the following:

• Assisting with curatorial research, planning and implementation of temporary and permanent public art initiatives and exhibits in a variety of sizes, scale and mediums.
• Assisting with the development of project briefs, drafting calls for artists, and supporting art selection processes for various public art projects.
• Coordinating summer cleaning and conducting seasonal art inspections for various public artworks.
• Supporting workshops and community outreach initiatives, including leading public art walking tours as needed.
• Preparing material for City presentations, and attending meetings, events, and site visits related to public art projects.
• Conducting research, benchmarking, and analysis related to public art and best practices.

Skills and Experience:

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field (art history, visual arts, art conservation, cultural management, urban planning, or a related discipline).
• Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to engage with artists, community members, and subcontractors.
• Ability to work both independently, pursuing self-directed tasks, as well as supporting team members and balancing multiple tasks at a time.
• Effective research, writing, oral communications and planning skills required.
• Ability to occasionally travel, perform site visits, and attend evening and weekend meetings pertaining to public art as required.
• May require occasional lifting materials and equipment, standing for long periods of time and walking at site visits.
• Knowledge of public art processes, including fabrication, installation, conservation and maintenance, is an asset.
• Must be proficient in the use of computer software packages and be familiar with the Windows environment, including Word, Excel, Outlook. Experience using collections management software is an asset.
• This position is a hybrid model (3 days in office/or field-based tasks, 2 days work from home). Therefore, the successful candidates should be comfortable and proficient for all 3 environments.

Compensation:

• Contract Duration: July to October 2025
• Hours of Work: 35
• Salary Range: $19.80 – 23.53 per hour
