Join us for the 33rd edition of Photorama, Gallery TPW’s annual fundraising exhibition featuring contemporary photography and lens-based art by over 80 artists!
Works available in this year’s Photorama sale can now be viewed online. Stay tuned as we roll out our catalogue of 80+ artists, and visit the Photorama 2019 website, Facebook event page, and Instagram for updates, staff and board picks, and much more. Artworks will also be available for purchase in our online shop, starting November 22, 2019 at noon.
Gallery TPW is pleased to announce the second year of our Photorama Fund partnership with the Ryerson Image Centre (RIC). For this exciting initiative, Toronto Image Works (TIW) will underwrite an acquisition fund, enabling the RIC to purchase work from Photorama for its world-class photography collection. In addition, TIW will be inaugurating the TIW WIP Prize, awarding an artist in the show, $1,000 in production support at TIW. The selected artworks will be announced at the Photorama reception on November 21.
Please note: based on feedback from past attendees, we are trying a new approach to the sale of the artwork this year. Guests who plan to purchase work will still receive a number upon arrival; however, the selection and calling of the numbers will now be randomized rather than sequential. As usual, sales will begin by 6:30, following the welcoming remarks. Guests are encouraged to arrive as soon as they can after the doors open at 5:00 p.m. to preview the artworks.
The evening will include food and a cash bar, stay late and celebrate this wonderful community with us on the dancefloor!

Gallery TPW is an innovative and exploratory artist-run centre based in Toronto. Through a diverse program of exhibitions, screenings, performances, new critical writing and education events, TPW’s expansive approach engages with the vital role that still and time-based images play in contemporary culture.
The Ryerson Image Centre (RIC) exists for the research, teaching and exhibition of photography and related media. As an active partner within the academic fabric of Ryerson University, the cultural network of greater Toronto, and the national and international artistic community, the RIC develops rigorous yet inclusive programs for students, faculty, artists, researchers and curators, as well as the general public. The RIC boasts three interrelated areas of activity. An exhibition program that addresses topics of social, cultural, aesthetic and historical concern from a variety of contemporary perspectives. The RIC’s Peter Higdon Research Centre conducts and facilitates inquiry into primary resource materials and offers workshops, lectures, symposia and publication programs. Finally, the RIC maintains a collection of photography spanning the medium’s history, as well as several artist and journalism archives—including the renowned Black Star Collection of twentieth century photoreportage. Toronto Image Works (TIW) is the brainchild of Edward Burtynsky. Established in 1986, it was created as a place where photographers could go to print their own works and refine their craft. The availability of darkroom rentals, C-41, black and white, Scala and E-6 film processing created a post-graduate club for imaging arts students and a valuable resource for both established and emerging artists, attracting some of the finest craftspeople in traditional film-based photography. As traditional film and graphic arts gave way to digital technologies, Toronto Image Works adapted to stay at the forefront of imaging and art production. Simply adopting digital technologies, however, was not enough. TIW also developed digital media training courses to help traditional artists and technicians adapt to industry wide changes.
