NAISA is proud to announce its 25th Anniversary edition of The Deep Wireless Festival of Radio and Transmission Art. Deep Wireless invites audiences to explore the creative potential of radio and the electromagnetic spectrum through an interactive exhibition, performances, workshops, online radio shows and a compilation album of experimental radio art works.

“Rooted in the belief that radio is both an artistic medium and a community connector, Deep Wireless highlights the ways radio & transmission art can challenge conventions, amplify marginalized voices, and inspire immersive new forms of listening. The festival will also launch NAISA’s theme for 2026—Sound Culture—with works that nurture dialogue around the evolving role of radio in contemporary culture.” Darren Copeland, Artistic Director, New Adventures in Sound Art

Material Transmissions by Anju Singh

Material Transmissions by Anju Singh

Material Transmissions by Vancouver sound artist Anju Singh is a sound sculpture that connects the sounds of hymn-based drones from temples with a sewing machine, and other industrial materials found in garment factories. Anju Singh explains, “My interest in these sounds began with my experience of hearing hymns in temples as forms of music and then feeling there was a strong relationship between those drone sounds and machine noise, often droning and hypnotic in nature.”

Voice of the Water by Eric Powell
*New* Permanent Installation ongoing
Pay By Donation

Voice of the Water is an interactive rotary telephone-based listening station. Using sounds collected from inside the lakes and rivers around South River, Voice of the Water encourages listeners to connect with the local waterways as they explore the boundaries and overlaps between planes of existence. The Artist’s goal is to create a venue for contemplation, catharsis, and a deeper engagement with the surrounding environment. Visit here for more information, including media stories and explore the project sound map. If you are interested in participating in collecting underwater winter sounds in the South River area for this permanent installation, please visit NAISA or contact us.

A winter workshop at Warbler’s Roost in the Almaguin Highlands exploring storytelling through sound rather than words. The workshop will combine practical recording and audio production/creation experience with a curated listening session of Radio Art works, in order to consider the evocative potential of sounds to convey stories without words. Participants will record winter soundscapes on a 14 acre rural property in Northern Ontario, including using hydrophones to explore the latent sounds of a frozen lake. Through guided field recording, group listening, and discussion, we’ll explore sound as story: non-linear, place-based, and more-than-human narratives shaped by winter environments.
